Stable Fast 3D: A Breakthrough in Real-Time 3D Model Generation

 

Stability AI recently introduced Stable Fast 3D, an advanced AI model capable of creating detailed 3D models from a single image in just 0.5 seconds. This tool is particularly useful for game and virtual reality developers, as well as professionals in retail, architecture, and design sectors.

Stable Fast 3D represents a significant evolution from the previous model, TripoSR, due to several architectural improvements that allow rapid and high-quality model generation. By using a single image, the system can produce a UV unwrapped mesh, material parameters, albedo colors with reduced illumination, and optionally, quad or triangle remeshing. This entire process requires only an additional 100-200ms, ensuring unprecedented speed.

 

The practical applications of Stable Fast 3D are numerous. Besides providing support during the pre-production phase for gaming and movie production industries, the model can be used to create static assets in video games, 3D models for e-commerce, and rapid prototyping in AR/VR. The system’s efficiency is remarkable, with drastically reduced inference times compared to previous models: from 10 minutes to just 0.5 seconds, while maintaining high-quality output.

Stable Fast 3D is accessible via Stability AI API and the Stable Assistant chatbot, allowing users to share their 3D creations in a 3D viewer and interact with them in augmented reality on WebXR-compatible devices. The model is available for download on GitHub under the Stability AI Community License, which permits non-commercial and commercial use for individuals or organizations with annual revenue up to $1M. For higher usage, direct contact for Enterprise Licenses is required.

 

The technology behind Stable Fast 3D is based on a completely retrained model compared to TripoSR, incorporating innovative techniques for fast textured mesh creation. This transformation has been made possible by extensive research and the development of advanced algorithms that reduce baked illumination and improve the management of material parameters.
