Google Photos Expands AI Editing Tools to All Users

Google has recently broadened access to its advanced AI-powered photo editing features, initially exclusive to Pixel devices and Google One subscribers. Starting May 15, 2024, tools such as Magic Editor, Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and Portrait Light will be freely available to all Google Photos users, whether on Android or iOS devices. This initiative aims to make advanced photo editing more accessible, removing the need for premium subscriptions or specific devices

.

Magic Editor stands out as a key innovation, allowing users to easily make complex edits. This tool enables the removal of unwanted elements, repositioning of subjects, and alteration of backgrounds using generative AI. For example, users can replace dull skies with vibrant alternatives or adjust lighting to enhance portraits. Alongside Magic Editor, features like Magic Eraser for removing objects and Photo Unblur for sharpening blurry images provide a powerful and user-friendly editing experience.

Access to these features does not require a Google One subscription, though there are limitations on the number of edits savable with Magic Editor: up to 10 photos per month, with unlimited options available only to Pixel device owners or Google One subscribers with 2TB storage plans or higher. Hardware compatibility includes devices running Android 8.0 or higher and iOS 15 or later, ensuring wide coverage among mobile users.

This expansion of Google Photos’ capabilities represents a significant step towards greater technological inclusivity, allowing a broader audience to enhance their photos effortlessly. The democratization of these advanced tools illustrates how AI can be used to simplify complex processes and increase accessibility to sophisticated technologies.
