Andrej Karpathy Launches Eureka Labs: A Future of AI Education.

 Key Points:
- New Educational Startup: Andrej Karpathy founds Eureka Labs, an AI-supported learning platform.
- AI Integration in Education: AI teaching assistants will collaborate with human teachers to improve learning.
- First AI Course: Initial course, LLM101n, will teach students to create their own AI assistant.
- Based in San Francisco: Registered as an LLC in Delaware, the startup aims to innovate education with advanced AI technologies.

San Francisco - Andrej Karpathy, known for his leadership role in AI at Tesla and OpenAI, announced the launch of Eureka Labs, an educational platform built around AI. This new initiative, registered as an LLC in Delaware on June 21, aims to revolutionize the education sector through the integration of AI-based teaching assistants.

Eureka Labs, based in San Francisco, plans to use recent advances in generative AI to develop teaching assistants that can guide students through educational materials. These AI assistants will work alongside teachers, who will continue to design course content, providing additional support to students.

Despite its grand ambitions, Eureka Labs is starting with a more traditional approach: the first product will be an undergraduate AI course called LLM101n. This course will teach students to create their own AI assistant, describing the path from building a large language model to creating a working web app, using programming languages such as Python, C, and CUDA.

The launch of Eureka Labs was announced by Karpathy on X (formerly Twitter), accompanied by an AI-generated image of a futuristic school. However, the post did not provide details on when the course will be available or whether any tests have been conducted on the effectiveness of the AI teaching assistants.

Karpathy emphasized that Eureka Labs is the result of his passion for AI and education, which has developed over the past two decades. After teaching deep learning at Stanford University until 2015, he co-founded OpenAI and later led the computer vision team for Tesla Autopilot. In 2022, he returned to OpenAI to work on ChatGPT before leaving again to launch Eureka Labs.

It is unclear whether Karpathy has received external funding for his startup or if it is a self-funded initiative. At present, there have been no announcements of significant investments for Eureka Labs. However, Karpathy continues to be an active educator, running an online course on neural networks and maintaining a YouTube channel where he regularly posts lectures on AI.

Eureka Labs promises to be an innovative platform in education, combining Karpathy’s experience in AI with his commitment to teaching. It remains to be seen how this new venture will develop and what impacts it will have on the way we learn and teach in the future.
