Presti: AI transforming furniture product photos
Presti, a French startup, is transforming the furniture sector using AI, enabling the creation of realistic photos from single product images, saving brands time and costs.

Highlights:

  • Presti uses generative AI to create realistic photos from single product images.
  • The startup raised $3.5 million in a seed round led by Partech.
  • The solution significantly reduces costs and time of traditional photo shoots.
  • Presti collaborates with Maisons du Monde and aims to facilitate the release of new products.

Presti, a French startup founded in November 2022, is revolutionizing how furniture brands create their product photos using generative AI. The young company recently raised a $3.5 million seed round led by global tech investment firm Partech, with participation from several business angels. Presti co-founder and CEO Nabil Toumi explained that the traditional process of creating product visuals is lengthy and expensive. Hence, Presti developed an innovative solution that turns a single product image into a realistic lifestyle photo.

Presti uses Stable Diffusion XL as its foundational model, retrained to work optimally for product imagery in the furniture industry. Initially, the standard version of Stable Diffusion XL had issues such as unwanted elements and distorted proportions. To address these problems, the team trained the model on a specific dataset of over 75,000 ultra-high-quality images of furniture, enhancing the learning process for specific use cases.

Another interesting aspect of Presti is the ability to add accessories to product shots. For instance, cushions can be added to a sofa, and these cushions will cast realistic shadows on the sofa, avoiding the artificial look typical of Photoshop additions. Additionally, Presti is working to allow customers to easily change the material and colors of models, facilitating the release of new products by companies.

While Presti primarily focuses on mid-sized furniture companies, it has already established a strategic partnership with Maisons du Monde, one of the largest furniture retailers in France. Other investors in the startup include Maxime Brousse, Thibaud Elzière, Julien Hirth, Abou Laraki, and Rémi Lemonnier.

The main advantage of Presti is the significant reduction in costs and time associated with traditional photo shoots. Previously, companies had to rent houses, transport products, and incur high logistical costs, with plans often scheduled months in advance and costs reaching hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of euros per year.

However, there is an open question about the impact of this technology on freelance photographers and whether the creativity and originality of stylists and other professionals working on traditional photo shoots can be entirely replaced by machine-generated backgrounds.

Presti offers an effective solution for furniture companies, enabling them to create high-quality images at reduced costs, while improving their ability to present unique products online.
