Bumble combats fake profiles with new AI image reporting feature
Bumble, the dating app that values women’s decisions, has introduced a new feature to combat fake profiles and AI-generated content. Users can now easily report profile images and videos that they suspect were created or edited with AI. This measure proves essential in today’s environment, where retouched or artificially generated photos are used not only for appearance enhancement, but also for fraudulent purposes.
To report suspicious content, simply tap the report icon on the profile, select "fake profile" and then the option "use AI-generated photos or videos." Users can also add a comment to provide additional details, which will be reviewed by Bumble’s moderation team.
This feature is in addition to Deception Detector, introduced by Bumble last February, which uses artificial intelligence to identify and remove fake profiles. According to the most recent data, this tool has already reduced reports of scam and fake profiles by 45 percent. However, with the help of the community and the new reporting option, user safety is expected to be further improved.
Risa Stein, vice president of Bumble, told Techcrunch, "By introducing this new reporting option, we can better understand how fraudsters and fake profiles use AI dishonestly so that our community feels safe in making connections."
This initiative by Bumble is part of a broader trend in the dating app industry, which is seeing an increasing use of artificial intelligence both to improve the user experience and to ensure safety on the platform. With more and more instances of online scams and fraud, the adoption of advanced moderation tools and active user collaboration become essential to maintaining a safe and trustworthy digital environment.
