AMD OVERTAKES INTEL IN BRAND POPULARITY THANKS TO INNOVATION IN AI
In recent years, AMD has made tremendous strides in the technology sector, gaining significant popularity over long-standing competitors such as Intel. According to Kantar’s latest market analysis, the AMD brand has experienced an impressive 53 percent year-over-year growth since 2023, propelling the company to 41st place on the "BrandZ Most Valuable Brands" list for 2024. This result surpasses that of industry giants such as Intel, Texas Instruments, and Samsung.
In the Technology Platforms and Services segment, AMD climbed nine positions, achieving a brand value of $51.86 million. This value reflects brand recognition only, calculated by multiplying the company’s financial value by its brand contribution. Kantar explains that BrandZ’s assessment "isolates the value generated by the strength of the brand in the minds of consumers," thus highlighting the importance of brand perception among users.
AMD’s success has been attributed primarily to its ability to innovate in advanced fields such as artificial intelligence and spatial computing. It is not only AMD that benefits from such advances; Nvidia, for example, has seen 178 percent annual growth due to its innovations in these areas. Kantar’s 20 Top Risers, including AMD, have largely capitalized on these technological developments.
On the other hand, Intel has reported a more modest 29 percent growth since 2023, advancing four places to 48th place. Intel’s rebranding in 2023, which included changes to the logo and jingle and the abandonment of historical brands such as Pentium and Celeron, received mixed reviews and did not have the hoped-for impact.
Interestingly, in 2023, none of the 20 Top Risers belonged to the technology sector, dominated instead by companies in telecommunications, food and beverage, and luxury brands. However, the 2024 Top 10 sees a prevalence of technology or technology-adjacent brands, indicating a change in trend.
The most valuable brands in 2024, according to Kantar, include Apple, Google, Microsoft, Amazon and McDonald’s, respectively, in that order. Nvidia comes in right behind, in sixth place, consolidating the dominance of technology brands in the ranking of most influential and valuable brands.
AMD’s growth underscores how technological innovation, especially in emerging areas such as AI, is critical to a brand’s success and recognition in today’s competitive landscape.
