AMAZON LAUNCHES "METIS" : NEW CHATBOT AI POISED TO REVOLUTIONIZE THE MARKETPLACE

 

Amazon is working on a new artificial intelligence-based chatbot designed to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This project, still under strict secrecy, is called "Metis," in honor of the Greek goddess of wisdom. Inside sources say Metis will be available through a web browser, similar to other AI assistants, and will use Amazon’s internal AI model known as Olympus, an advanced evolution of the Titan model.

Metis is distinguished by its ability to respond intelligently and conversationally to both text and image-based queries, including including links to sources of the information provided, suggesting follow-up questions, and generating images. 

A significant innovation of Metis is the use of the retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) technique, which allows it to retrieve up-to-date information beyond the data with which the Olympus model was trained. This feature allows Metis to provide current responses, such as real-time stock prices, a feature that some other chatbots do not offer. Metis is also designed to act as an AI assistant, capable of automating and managing complex tasks using existing data, such as organizing travel itineraries or booking flights.

Although the AI assistant market is already competitive, with companies such as Microsoft, Google and OpenAI dominating the field, Amazon aims to close the gap with Metis. Amazon’s previous model, Titan, was deemed less powerful than its competitors, and the launch of Amazon Q, a chatbot for enterprise customers, was not as successful as hoped.

Metis is scheduled to launch in September. With increasing competition in the field of artificial intelligence, this development will be crucial in determining Amazon’s position in the market for digital assistants, which are becoming increasingly important in everyday interactions between technology and users.
