Claude 3.5 Sonnet: The New AI Standard Now Available on Anthropic

Anthropic has launched Claude 3.5 Sonnet, the first model in the new Claude 3.5 family. This model represents a significant advancement in AI, offering superior performance compared to its predecessors and competitor models. Claude 3.5 Sonnet is available for free on Claude.ai and the Claude iOS app, with Pro and Team plan subscribers getting higher rate limits. It is also available through the Anthropic API, Amazon Bedrock, and Google Cloud’s Vertex AI, costing $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens, with a 200K token context window.

Claude 3.5 Sonnet excels in advanced intelligence, surpassing competitor models and the previous Claude 3 Opus in numerous evaluations. It has shown significant improvements in graduate-level reasoning, undergraduate-level knowledge, and coding proficiency. This model operates at twice the speed of Claude 3 Opus, making it ideal for complex tasks such as context-sensitive customer support and orchestrating multi-step workflows.

In an internal coding evaluation, Claude 3.5 Sonnet solved 64% of problems, compared to Claude 3 Opus’s 38%. This test evaluated the model’s ability to fix bugs or add functionality to an open-source codebase, demonstrating advanced reasoning and problem-solving capabilities.

Another strength of Claude 3.5 Sonnet is its state-of-the-art vision, outperforming Claude 3 Opus in standard vision benchmarks. It is particularly effective in visual reasoning and accurately transcribing text from imperfect images, a critical capability for industries like retail, logistics, and financial services.

Additionally, Anthropic introduced a new feature called Artifacts on Claude.ai, allowing users to generate content such as code snippets, text documents, or website designs, viewable in a dedicated window. This feature transforms Claude from a conversational AI to a collaborative work environment.

Anthropic emphasizes its commitment to safety and privacy, with rigorous testing and advanced safety mechanisms to reduce model misuse. The Claude 3.5 Sonnet model has been evaluated by the UK Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute, confirming its ASL-2 safety level.

Looking ahead, Anthropic plans to further enhance the Claude 3.5 model family with versions like Claude 3.5 Haiku and Claude 3.5 Opus, and to develop new features to support more enterprise use cases. Users can provide feedback directly on the product to influence the development roadmap.
