DuckDuckGo introduces AI Chat: anonymous and free access to popular AI chatbots. A new feature for secure and private browsing.

DuckDuckGo has recently launched a new feature called AI Chat, allowing users to anonymously access some of the most renowned AI chatbots, such as OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 Turbo, Anthropic’s Claude 3 Haiku, Meta Llama 3, and Mistral’s Mixtral 8x7B. This option, free with a daily limit, is designed to ensure user privacy by eliminating any tracking of conversations.

DuckDuckGo’s search platform has always been synonymous with online privacy protection. With the introduction of AI Chat, it continues its mission to offer digital tools that protect user confidentiality. According to a recent Pew Research report, most adults in the United States express concerns about companies using AI to handle personal data. Despite these concerns, there is a growing use of chatbots for work, education, and entertainment.

DuckDuckGo AI Chat can be found at duck.ai, duckduckgo.com/chat, or on the search results page under the Chat tab. It can also be accessed via the !ai and !chat shortcuts. This optional and easily switchable feature does not save or use conversations for AI model training, maintaining a high level of anonymity.

To ensure anonymity, DuckDuckGo uses its own IP address to make requests to chatbot models, making it impossible to trace users. Additionally, conversations are not stored, and all metadata is removed. Agreements with AI model providers ensure complete deletion of chats within 30 days and prohibit using these chats for training or improving models.

While the use of AI Chat is free, DuckDuckGo is exploring the introduction of a paid plan that offers higher daily usage limits and access to more advanced AI models. The future plans include adding new chat models and improving the user experience.

DuckDuckGo firmly believes that AI Chat and traditional search can complement each other. Depending on personal preferences, users can easily switch between them to get immediate answers or delve deeper into research. The AI Chat feature is particularly useful for drafting emails, writing code, creating travel itineraries, and much more.
