NEW EU RULES FOR GENERATIVE AIGENERATIVE
The European Data Protection Supervisor ( EDPS) has issued new guidelines on the use of generative AI and the management of personal data, designed to support EU institutions, bodies and agencies in complying with data protection rules when using or developing generative AI tools.
This information is reported in an EDPS statement.
The guidelines emphasize essential data protection principles and include practical examples to identify risks, challenges and opportunities associated with generative AI systems.
Wojciech Wiewiorowski, the European Data Protection Supervisor, described these guidelines as a first step toward making more detailed recommendations in response to the continuing evolution of generative AI tools.
He also pointed out that the guidelines have been developed to cover as many scenarios of generative AI use as possible, thereby offering lasting advice to EU institutions to ensure the protection of individuals’ personal information and privacy.
