FASTWEB PIONEER: LAUNCHES MADE-IN-ITALY ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming an increasingly central theme for the future, and among the Italian companies investing resources in this sector, Fastweb stands out.

The company is working on an ambitious project: to create an entirely Italian AI, tailor-made for our country and enriched by our history and culture.

Fastweb, a pioneer in broadband connections in Italy and always attentive to innovation, has already undertaken initiatives in cloud computing, edge computing, cybersecurity, and recently in electric power.

Since 2019, Fastweb has focused on AI, anticipating a trend that has only recently seen the interest of many other companies and governments.

The main challenge for large language models (LLMs) is that currently only 1% of the data used to train them is in Italian, with an evident predominance of English leading to an Anglo-Saxon cultural influence.

To overcome this barrier, Fastweb is developing an LLM trained entirely in Italian, capable of capturing the linguistic and cultural specifics of Italy, and aimed at supporting local businesses and administrations.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

Fastweb has acquired new hardware infrastructure, including 32 Nvidia SuperPod DGX H100 units, which will be installed in a data center in Lombardy.

This setup will constitute the most powerful private supercomputer in Italy, dedicated exclusively to AI.

For training the new LLM, Fastweb will use a variety of Italian data, including legislative texts and editorial documents.

The selection of materials is entrusted to a team of experts, in collaboration with Italian universities, to ensure accurate and relevant training.

The goal is to create a 100% made-in-Italy tool, capable of "thinking" authentically in Italian, avoiding biases derived from the use of Anglo-Saxon models.

Once completed, this LLM will be made available to all Italian companies that request it, offering customized solutions for sectors such as healthcare, justice, public administration, and education.

On the privacy front, Fastweb ensures that all data will be stored in Italian data centers, guaranteeing optimal protection and greater control over information.
