#Photoshop's #AI can now '#uncrop'#images by expanding #selections and #filling in blank areas using generative AI models. The feature adds AI-generated content matched to the image's style. This is what is commonly referred to as "#outpainting" and it's been available for some months in other AI tools like #DallE or some UIs for #StableDiffusion. Yet it's very interesting that it's also coming to #Adobe Photoshop.
Photoshop's new Generative Expand feature allows the editing app to expand crops and undo edits made to images using artificial intelligence. The AI technology adds new parts of the image not originally captured to match the original content, filling in blank areas around the edges of edited images and stretching photos to new aspect ratios. Users can simply drag the Crop tool in Photoshop to expand the canvas and generate new content that blends with the existing image. This can be useful when subjects are cut off, proportions need adjusting or objects are out of alignment.
Content is added as an editable layer, giving users flexibility. While the feature is not novel, native integration within Photoshop's editor could make it a useful tool for the app's millions of users. Adobe filters content for inappropriate outputs, though the feature is currently in beta and not authorized for commercial work yet.
