Firefox Gets NVIDIA VSR
DukeRem15 July 2023
In a major #update, the #Mozilla #Firefox #browser has now integrated #NVIDIA's #RTX #Video #Super #Resolution or #VSR #technology to #improve video #quality and #upscale lower resolution content. The feature was already available for #Google #Chrome as we reported some time ago.
VSR relies on specialized #Tensor Cores found in NVIDIA's RTX Series #GPUs to use #AI algorithms and enhance video clarity, sharpness and details through a software upscaling technique.
To enable the new feature in Firefox, users can access the "about:config" page and set the "gfx.webrender.super-resolution.nvidia" preference to "True".
With the feature active, videos played within Firefox should exhibit improved quality and resolution. While NVIDIA has not officially announced VSR support for Firefox yet, independent tests confirm that the browser now integrates the upscaling technology. VSR is still in its early stages within Firefox and its full capabilities remain to be seen. However, the addition signals Mozilla's openness to utilizing innovative techniques to enhance the Firefox experience.
Please note that you need at least a series 30 GPU (and up) to use this feature.
