The Roads and Transport Authority is now testing state-of-the-art laser scanning technology that can detect extremely small cracks and potholes in the roads, some as minor as 1 millimetre - that's impressively small. Mounted on patrol cars, the device can identify up to 13 types of damage. This means that small issues can be fixed before they become larger problems, extending road longevity and saving on costs. The AI algorithms in place can even create mapping information to help prioritise repairs. This high-tech system is far superior to the visual inspections of the past.
