Intel to add VPUs to Meteor Lake CPUs | | | | Turtles AI

  #Intel's upcoming #MeteorLake processors will include Vision Processing Units (#VPU) to boost #AI workloads. VPUs are dedicated hardware for handling #computervision and AI tasks more efficiently than general-purpose #CPUs or #GPUs. Intel acquired VPU tech through its purchase of #Movidius in 2016 and has included VPUs in some 13th-generation #Core processors. It appears now that all of Intel's Meteor Lake chips will feature on-die VPUs. Intel said that VPUs will handle sustained AI and AI offload, freeing up the CPU for latency-sensitive inference and the GPU for highly parallel work. The VPUs will constitute one of the #chipsets within Meteor Lake's System on Chip (#SoC) design. Intel hopes VPUs will improve the performance and capabilities of Meteor Lake PCs for AI-enhanced applications and features like video conferencing and #gaming. The launch of Meteor Lake, Intel's first hybrid CPU architecture, is anticipated to rejuvenate Intel's PC processor sales which have been declining.
