ChatGPT will use Bing for searches
DukeRem24 May 2023
#OpenAI's popular #ChatGPT #AI #assistant is set to incorporate #Microsoft #Bing as its default #search #engine, replacing #Google and other competitors that ChatGPT previously integrated. Bing search platform will hence provide data and web citations to inform ChatGPT's automatic responses to user questions. The partnership marks a major win for Microsoft's Bing, which has long played second fiddle to Google in the search market, but this is no surprise, given MS's involvement in OpenAI. Integrating Bing into ChatGPT broadens Bing's reach and gives it exposure to ChatGPT's large and growing user base. ChatGPT co-creator Sam McCandless said the switch to Bing "creates a powerful combination of ChatGPT's conversational nous with Bing's very high-quality search and insight." McCandless added that users should notice "more timely, relevant results with citations from the ever-expanding web that Bing searches." Microsoft and OpenAI have been working together for years, and Microsoft's recent multibillion-dollar investment in OpenAI helped facilitate the expanded Bing integration. The companies also plan to maintain open interoperability between their AI products going forward. The move demonstrates how partnerships between AI companies and search engines are helping to improve the capabilities of both conversational assistants and web crawlers, to the benefit of users. ChatGPT users should begin seeing Bing-powered responses within the next few weeks.
