SAS has introduced a new agentic AI framework built into the Viya platform, designed to balance autonomous, automated decisions with human oversight. This system aims to ensure transparency, ethics, and governance in business decision-making.
Key points:
- Introducing customizable AI agents with human oversight.
- Integrating advanced language models for accurate decisions.
- Built-in governance to ensure compliance and transparency.
- Partnering with Microsoft to expand system accessibility.
At SAS Innovate 2025 in Orlando, SAS announced the introduction of an advanced agentic AI framework within its Viya platform. This new architecture enables organizations to develop AI agents that can make autonomous decisions while maintaining a balance with human oversight. The goal is to provide a transparent, ethical, and compliant decision-making system, which is especially useful in regulated industries such as finance and healthcare.
The framework is based on three key pillars: decisions, AI-human balance, and governance. Decisions are supported by a hybrid approach that combines large linguistic models (LLM) with predefined business rules, ensuring reliable results. The balance between AI and human supervision allows the level of autonomy of agents to be adapted based on the complexity of the task and the associated risk. Finally, integrated governance ensures that decisions comply with ethical and regulatory standards, maintaining data confidentiality and aligning with corporate values.
SAS also presented tools such as Viya Workbench, Data Maker and Viya Copilot, designed to simplify development, synthetic data generation and AI-assisted modeling. These tools aim to improve the productivity and efficiency of decision-making processes. The collaboration with Microsoft, in particular the integration with the Microsoft Power Platform, broadens the accessibility of the system, allowing users to run decision-making modules within applications such as Power Apps and Power Automate.
With the introduction of this framework, SAS offers organizations an advanced decision-making system that combines the efficiency of automation with the necessary human oversight, ensuring transparent, ethical and regulatory-compliant decisions.
