Google Cloud and the Allen Institute for AI (Ai2) have invested $20 million in the Cancer AI Alliance (CAIA), an initiative to advance cancer research through AI. In addition to support from Google Cloud and Ai2, the initiative benefits from funding from AWS, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Deloitte and Slalom, with the aim of developing a shared AI infrastructure that allows for the secure and collaborative analysis of large volumes of oncology data.

CAIA’s approach involves creating AI models that can be used across institutions, while maintaining high standards of privacy and security for sensitive patient data. This method aims to overcome the current limitations of AI models in the oncology field, promoting more effective collaboration between research centers and hospitals.

With the help of Google Cloud and Ai2, CAIA is positioned to significantly accelerate progress in AI-driven cancer research, with the goal of achieving initial research results by the end of 2025. The initiative aims to expand further, with a long-term ambition of reaching $1 billion in resources.
