  • Programs available online and at the St. Petersburg/Gibbs and Clearwater campuses.
  • Transfer credits toward associate degrees in Data Science.

St. Petersburg College (SPC) has announced the introduction of two new AI certificate programs designed to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in emerging technologies. The first, the Artificial Intelligence Responsible Use Certificate, is a 9-credit program that provides an overview of AI theory and applications, explores its impact across industries, and promotes the ethical and responsible use of technology.

The second program, the “Artificial Intelligence Responsible Use Practitioner Certificate,” is a more in-depth, 18-credit track that focuses on practical skills in areas such as machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and data analytics. This certificate includes two programming courses that transfer to SPC’s Associate in Science in Data Science degree, giving students a solid foundation for further study or career opportunities in data science.

Jimmy Chang, interim dean of SPC’s College of Computer and Information Technology, says these programs are a great starting point for those who want to understand the role and influence of AI in contemporary society. Dawn Ellis, a faculty member who helped design the curriculum, notes that more and more graduates are being asked to integrate AI into their jobs, highlighting the pervasiveness of AI-based tools in the business world.

The courses are offered online and at the St. Petersburg/Gibbs and Clearwater campuses, with sessions lasting eight weeks, offering flexibility for interested students. Enrollment is currently open for both programs.

These new certificates are part of St. Petersburg College’s commitment to providing cutting-edge educational programs that are in line with the needs of the job market and technological evolution.
