Currently, iOS sorts notifications chronologically, showing the most recent ones at the top. With this new feature, the most relevant alerts will instead be placed in the foreground, even if received previously.

Apple Intelligence is behind this selection, analyzing the content of messages and determining their priority. Users will still be able to scroll up to view all notifications, thus ensuring full control over alerts received. The feature is disabled by default and can be enabled by accessing the iPhone settings, under the Notifications section, and enabling the “Prioritize Notifications” option.

Initial tests suggest that Apple Intelligence tends to prioritize notifications from messaging apps or time-sensitive events, such as upcoming deliveries, over other apps such as Gmail or Asana. The iOS 18.4 update is currently available in developer beta and will need to go through the public beta program before official release.
