Gloo, a technology platform specializing in connecting the faith ecosystem with advanced digital tools, announced the introduction of new standards to promote ethical AI focused on human well-being. As part of its Gloo Open strategy, which aims for transparency in access to AI research, models and datasets, the company has developed Flourishing AI (FAI) standards with the goal of assessing the effectiveness of artificial intelligence solutions in supporting individual and collective growth. This initiative complements the creation of an expert advisory group that will guide the development of AI practices that are reliable, safe and in line with shared ethical principles.
Pat Gelsinger, president of Gloo and former CEO of Intel, emphasized that trust in AI depends not only on its performance and safety, but also on its alignment with human values and well-being. The AI Flourishing Standards are based on seven core dimensions, developed with input from Harvard’s Human Flourishing Program, Barna Group and other experts: relationships, finances, happiness, meaning, character, health and spirituality. The latter dimension was developed through collaboration with faith-based research organizations.
To ensure an objective assessment of AI models, Gloo introduced the FAI benchmark, which employs more than a thousand analytics parameters to measure the alignment of leading AI platforms with dimensions of human well-being. This tool will help identify the most effective solutions in promoting individual and collective growth, providing a clear benchmark for developers and organizations.
Gloo’s strategy is supported by leading academic and religious institutions. Partners include the Global Flourishing Study team, a five-year initiative led by Harvard, Baylor University and Gallup, which analyzes human well-being on an international scale with a sample of more than 200,000 people in 22 countries. Tyler VanderWeele, Harvard professor and one of the project’s initiators, highlighted the importance of integrating this research into the development of AI standards, creating reliable metrics to guide technology toward a positive and measurable impact on society.
In parallel, Gloo has partnered with several religious organizations, representing different denominations, to promote AI aligned with the spiritual values and needs of faith communities. Barna Group, active in the study of religion’s influence in society for more than four decades, has helped make Flourishing AI metrics accessible, providing a common reference point for religious organizations interested in adopting AI in their contexts.
To ensure a responsible and transparent approach, Gloo has established a trusted advisory group, comprised of experts in AI, security, law, academia and theology, to oversee the evolution of standards and provide ethical guidelines to companies in the field. The first round of evaluations of AI models according to the Flourishing AI benchmark is currently underway and the results will be released through the Gloo Open initiative.
