Apple and Meta may soon clash on a new technological front: humanoid robotics. While the Cupertino giant is reportedly working on advanced solutions for the smart home, Meta recently announced a strong commitment to the sector, with investments aimed at creating robots capable of carrying out domestic tasks. The strategies of the two companies, however, appear to differ. Meta is mainly focusing on the development of advanced AI to be integrated into robots produced by third parties, while Apple, known for its closed ecosystem, may design proprietary devices with a particular emphasis on security and protection of user privacy.

According to internal sources, Meta has already established a new team dedicated to robotics within its Reality Labs division, the same unit responsible for initiatives related to augmented and virtual reality. The goal is to maximize the potential of the Llama AI platform, providing machine learning solutions to allow robots to interact naturally with the home environment. Possible applications include support for daily tasks, assistance for people with reduced mobility, and integration with the ecosystem of smart devices already developed by Meta, such as Ray-Ban Meta glasses and Quest headsets.

At the same time, Apple is exploring the sector with a more reserved approach. Although no official details have been released, some rumors suggest that the company is evaluating robotics solutions that could be part of its smart home ecosystem. Initial hypotheses speak of an AI-based table assistant, while a more ambitious project could include a humanoid robot with advanced capabilities. However, the timing remains uncertain: while Meta seems intent on gradually introducing its technology by collaborating with robotics companies such as Unitree Robotics and Figure AI, Apple could take years before bringing a mature product to market.

The landscape of consumer robotics is rapidly evolving. Companies such as Tesla and Boston Dynamics are already developing humanoid solutions for industrial and logistics applications, but the transition to the domestic market poses not only technological but also economic challenges. Production costs remain high and only a fierce competition between big tech companies could accelerate the price drop, making humanoid robots accessible to a wider audience.

Although there is still a long way to go, the growing interest in this technology suggests that the future of the smart home could soon include robots capable of interacting with users and performing complex tasks, reshaping the very concept of a home assistant.
