NVIDIA has decided to adapt its business strategy to the Chinese regulatory landscape by introducing the GeForce RTX 5090D, a variant aimed at meeting local laws without sacrificing consumer appeal. This model, heir to the RTX 4090D, implements limitations that specifically affect performance in AI and crypto-mining. The most notable change concerns the GPU’s ability to automatically freeze its performance after three seconds of heavy load. This mechanism, likely related to reductions in clock frequencies or other software optimizations, is a measure designed to hinder the card’s use in areas other than gaming. At the same time, power limit management is constrained, preventing custom configurations that may exceed the imposed performance margins.

Another important aspect of the RTX 5090D concerns the inability to exploit it in multi-GPU configurations. This marks a clear break with what was happening with the RTX 4090D, which has been used in the past by Chinese companies to create AI clusters capable of competing with professional solutions. NVIDIA has tightened the restrictions to such an extent that even Linux operating systems cannot circumvent them, cutting off these options altogether. As a result, the RTX 5090D’s capabilities remain targeted at single-use, making it unsuitable for large-scale complex computational workloads.

In terms of technical specifications, however, the GeForce RTX 5090D stands out for outstanding performance in the consumer segment. Equipped with the GB202 architecture, it offers 21,760 CUDA Cores and 32 GB of GDDR7 memory, working at a speed of 28 Gbps. Total bandwidth reaches 1792 GB/s, a figure that confirms its superiority in high-end gaming. Demonstrating that the product is already ready for the market, some partner card manufacturers, such as GALAX, have begun to introduce their first custom models.

These modifications, although designed to limit use in professional fields such as AI and mining, do not affect gaming performance in the slightest. The GeForce RTX 5090D thus positions itself as an excellent choice for gamers, confirming NVIDIA’s commitment to maintaining its presence in the Chinese market without sacrificing technology leadership.
