OpenAI Introduces Tasks to ChatGPT to Manage Tasks and Reminders
A new feature for organizing future actions and personalized notifications available in beta for premium users

OpenAI has introduced “Tasks” in ChatGPT, a feature that allows users to schedule future actions and recurring tasks, turning the AI into an advanced personal assistant. The feature is reserved for paid users in beta mode.

Key points:

  • Task Scheduling: Tasks allows users to schedule reminders, updates and recurring actions in ChatGPT.
  • Limited availability: Accessible only to Plus, Team and Pro subscribers in beta.
  • Multi-channel notifications: Web, desktop and mobile alerts for task management.
  • Toward Autonomous AI: Tasks represents a step toward AI agents capable of acting independently.

OpenAI has launched a new ChatGPT feature called “Tasks,” designed to manage future actions and reminders in a personalized and automated way. It is an advanced feature, initially available in beta for Plus, Team, and Pro subscribers, that allows users to schedule recurring or one-time tasks, such as daily notifications, weekly briefings, or simple reminders. Integration with the notification system is designed to send alerts across browsers, desktop applications, and mobile devices, providing comprehensive management of set tasks. Users can access this feature by selecting the “4o with scheduled tasks” option in ChatGPT’s template selector. Once activated, the system allows users to create activities simply by typing a request, such as “Remind me to renew my passport” or “Send me a joke at 6 p.m. every day.” In addition, these actions can be managed or modified through a dedicated menu available on the web interface.

Tasks is not limited to responding to immediate requests, but introduces a new interaction paradigm in which the AI becomes a true personal assistant, capable of proactively proposing activities based on conversations. Users, however, must explicitly approve suggestions to ensure control. With a maximum limit of ten simultaneous active activities, OpenAI aims to maintain system efficiency and avoid overloading. This innovation is a first step toward the development of “autonomous AI agents” capable of acting independently and learning from context, a concept that OpenAI sees as central to the future of the technology.

During the launch, OpenAI highlighted that Tasks is not just an extension of ChatGPT’s current capabilities, but an evolution toward greater AI operational autonomy. This development is part of a broader strategy, outlined by CEO Sam Altman, to take ChatGPT toward advanced levels of agent intelligence, eventually reaching forms of superintelligence. For the moment, Tasks looks like a useful feature for practical and repetitive tasks, but it hints at a much broader potential.

This innovation transforms ChatGPT from a simple chatbot to a versatile and planning-capable tool, paving the way for further applications in the AI context.
