The airline, now a regular feature at the tech event, used the stage of the futuristic Sphere to announce innovations ranging from AI to in-flight entertainment to experimental aviation efficiency projects. The new virtual assistant, dubbed Delta Concierge, is the centerpiece of an increasingly advanced mobile app designed to anticipate travelers’ needs. Available later this year, the system will offer personalized notifications and interactive features via voice and text, such as reminders about passport expirations and information about entry requirements in various countries. It will also guide passengers through airport terminals, helping them locate boarding gates, baggage lockers, and Sky Club lounges. Despite its potential, the solution elicits mixed reactions, as many of the announced features, while useful, are perceived more as industry standards than genuine innovations.
In addition to innovations in the app, Delta announced the introduction of a new in-flight entertainment system, which will see the light of day in 2026. Described as the first of its kind cloud-based, it will offer passengers 4K HDR QLED screens and Bluetooth connectivity, along with 96 terabytes of local storage for multimedia content. Although this innovation is an improvement over the company’s current systems, others in the industry, such as United Airlines, have already implemented similar technologies, raising questions about Delta’s true competitive advantage. This program, inspired by the coordinated flight of birds, aims to reduce energy consumption by flying aircraft in formation.
