In celebration of the holiday season, OpenAI has released a new feature that allows users to converse with a virtual version of Santa Claus within ChatGPT. This innovative tool, available in both standard and advanced voice mode, offers a unique interactive experience where Santa’s voice and personality are preset as options in ChatGPT’s voice mode. Users can easily access this mode by tapping a snowflake icon located next to the prompt bar, or by navigating to the app’s voice settings. This mode will be active on all supported platforms-i.e., iOS and Android mobile devices, chatgpt.com, and desktop apps for Windows and macOS-with the ability to interact with Santa Claus until early January. The news is part of a series of festive updates that also introduced features such as the ability to initiate video calls and screen sharing during advanced voice conversations, benefiting especially ChatGPT Plus and Pro users. The latter, in fact, will be able to take advantage of the new ability to make live video calls through the mobile app, while European users will have to wait a few weeks to access the feature. Conversations with Santa Claus are designed to be temporary and are not stored in the chat history, nor do they affect system memory or are used for model training. The conversation is also not saved beyond 30 days for security reasons, in line with OpenAI’s data protection policies. For the curious, there is also an interesting bonus: for every user who initiates a conversation with Santa Claus, a one-time upgrade to the Advanced Voice Mode usage limit will be granted, even if you have already reached your daily or monthly limit. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, enthusiastically described this new option, calling it a small Christmas surprise, representing one of the many new features promoted by OpenAI as part of a holiday season full of innovations.

The voice of Santa Claus is available to all users on all ChatGPT platforms, with a notice that he will return “to the North Pole” at the end of this season.
