Google has integrated Spotify with its Gemini AI assistant, allowing users to search and play music using natural language voice commands. This feature is available on Android devices and can also be used with other music apps such as YouTube Music. To activate Gemini support, users must link their Google and Spotify accounts.

Google has expanded the capabilities of its Gemini AI assistant, integrating it with Spotify and allowing users to search and play music tracks through voice commands. The integration allows users to interact with Spotify’s vast catalog simply by speaking the title of a song, the name of an artist, an album, or a playlist. This innovation applies to Android users who have linked their Spotify account with their Google account, a prerequisite for taking advantage of the new feature. Although the interaction with Gemini does not allow users to create custom playlists or radio stations on Spotify, the assistant is still able to search and play the requested music efficiently and immediately. Importantly, if the user has already set up another music streaming service, such as YouTube Music, he or she will need to verbally specify which platform to use at the beginning of the request. Once the preferred service is established, Gemini will continue to operate on it until further indication. 

This extension represents the second case of Gemini’s application on non-Google apps, following the recent support for WhatsApp introduced in October. To use this feature, users must enable the Gemini Apps Activity option, which saves queries made to the assistant for up to 72 hours, and ensure that Gemini’s language is set to English. The innovation is currently limited to Android devices and does not work in either the Gemini app on iOS or within Google Messages. To activate, the process requires users to link their Spotify and Google accounts, completing the necessary configurations through the device’s settings.

The increasing integration of third-party services with Google AI provides a smoother and more personalized user experience, but it requires proper configuration to ensure optimal use of the new features.
