Bing Image Creator now live
DukeRem23 March 2023
Bing is taking yet another step forward in its new life alongside AI. Now, it can create images from textual descriptions, possessing the same capabilities as other deep learning text-to-image models such as Midjourney and DALL-E. Bing has obtained an advanced version of the latter model to give life to Bing Image Creator.
The Bing Image Creator is fully integrated into the Bing chat experience, initially only in creative mode and for some selected users. However, it will eventually open up to other modes as well. Recently, Bing's AI-based textual requests have been divided into three modes - Creative, Balanced, and Precise - depending on the tone and degree of precision that the user desires in the responses.
Like other text-to-image models, by typing a description of the image, providing additional contexts such as the location or activity, and choosing an artistic style, Image Creator generates the desired image from the user. The initial prompt expressions that should be used to trigger image creation are "create an image" or "draw an image."
Bing Creator is also available in the Edge browser's AI sidebar that opens on the Bing icon.
Understandably, Microsoft has chosen to apply OpenAI's safeguards, which created DALL-E, from which Bing Image Creator was born, to avoid producing harmful and unsafe images, using additional protections as well.
Bing Image Creator is also available as a standalone page, in which users have a limited quantity of credits (once deployed, image generation will still be possible, but much slower). The specific site for Bing Image Creator can be accessed by clicking here.
Here is an example that I created with Bing Image Creator, by typing "a banana with a red hat". The elaboration took about 2 minutes.
