SpotHero has signed a partnership with Google to enable parking reservations directly on Google Maps and Search, covering more than 8,000 locations in North America.

Key points:

  •  SpotHero integrates its parking reservation service into Google Maps and Search.
  •  Users can make reservations at over 8,000 locations in the United States and Canada.
  •  Options for electric vehicles and handicapped accessibility are available.
  •  Google does not offer its own reservation tool, but has already partnered with ParkMobile.

SpotHero, a startup specializing in parking reservations, has announced a new partnership with Google, allowing users in the United States and Canada to reserve parking spaces in more than 8,000 locations directly through Google Maps and Google Search. This integration, available through a simple “Book Online” button, will allow drivers to easily locate parking spaces near their destination without leaving the apps. By clicking the button, users will be redirected to SpotHero’s site to complete the reservation. Not only will it be possible to book in advance, but users will also be able to select specific options, such as electric vehicle recharges, handicap accessibility, and valet services. The agreement is an important step for SpotHero, considering the large user base of Google Maps and Google Search, which are used by billions of people. Interestingly, Google has never developed a proprietary parking reservation tool, although it has partnered with ParkMobile in the past to facilitate payments. SpotHero, which claims to serve more than 10 million drivers in North America and has reached nearly $1.5 billion in bookings, earns a 35 percent commission on each reservation made. Recently, the company also partnered with Apple Maps to offer its users a similar service. Google, in its quest to enhance the functionality of its apps, recently updated Maps with the ability to show destination details as drivers approach, as well as direct them to available parking spaces. This partnership with SpotHero could further enhance the experience of users looking for parking in their vicinity.

This collaboration is another step in the direction of a more integrated and seamless user experience for those on the road.
