Amazon Introduces Video Generator: AI That Creates Promotional Videos for Advertisers
New tool turns product images into short, personalized ad clips, currently available in beta in the U.S.

Amazon has unveiled Video Generator, an AI-based tool for creating short promotional videos from a product image, initially reserved for selected advertisers in the United States. Currently in beta, it will be refined in the coming months.

Key points:

  •  Amazon launches Video Generator for selected advertisers, generating 6-9 second videos.
  •  Video ads are created from a product image, with limited customization.
  •  The tool is in beta phase for advertisers in Sponsored Brands campaigns.
  •  The initiative competes with companies such as Google and Adobe.

At the Accelerate conference, Amazon launched Video Generator, a new AI-based technology aimed at advertisers. The tool allows a product image to be transformed into a promotional video lasting only a few seconds, thus offering a creative marketing solution at no additional cost to brands. Currently in beta phase for a select group of U.S. advertisers, mainly for “Sponsored Brands” campaigns, Video Generator represents an innovation that aims to make product promotion on Amazon more immediate and dynamic. The generated videos consist of two scenes with customizable titles highlighting product features, accompanied by background music and a call to action. Users can choose from four variations for the videos, which take about five minutes to create and last from six to nine seconds, with a resolution of 720p at 24 frames per second. In addition, it is possible to change the font, soundtrack and add the brand logo within the video.

In addition to the Video Generator, Amazon also announced a new feature called “Live Image,” which turns a static image into an animated GIF lasting just a few seconds, adding to the functionality offered by the suite of image generation tools for advertisers called Image Generator. “Live Image” is also currently available in limited beta and offers an attractive solution for those who want more dynamic visual content without an excessive creative or financial commitment.

This move by Amazon is within a broader context of growing interest in generative video technology by a number of companies. Recently, startups such as Runway and Luma have launched their own APIs for video generation, while Google is beginning to integrate its Veo model for automated video content creation on platforms such as YouTube Shorts. Similarly, Adobe has promised to introduce a video generation feature within its Creative Suite by the end of the year. OpenAI is also on track to release its own video generation tool, called Sora, by the fall.

However, as with all technologies related to generative AI, the use of these tools is not without risk, especially in terms of intellectual property. AI models are trained using large amounts of video, and sometimes the content could be derived from copyrighted materials. This could expose users to possible litigation, although Amazon has stated that it will protect its customers with an indemnification policy similar to what it already applies in other areas. It is not yet clear whether Video Generator and Live Image will be covered by these guarantees, but the issue of intellectual property protection continues to be central to the debate over the use of generative AI.

The introduction of these tools could trigger significant changes in the creative industry’s production and work models.
